About Us

Keeping a century-old tradition alive — one honest answer at a time.

What Is the Rice Purity Test?

The Rice Purity Test is a 100-question self-assessment survey that asks you to check off life experiences you've had — from the mundane to the mischievous. At the end, you're given a score out of 100. The higher the score, the more "pure" you are; the lower, the more experienced.

But this test isn't a judgment. It never was. It's a mirror — a lighthearted way to look back at your life experiences, laugh with friends, and reflect on the journey that brought you here.

A Tradition Born at Rice University

The Rice Purity Test traces its origins to Rice University in Houston, Texas, where it was first used in the early 20th century as a social bonding tool among incoming students. Originally distributed as a paper checklist during orientation week, it helped freshmen break the ice, find common ground, and laugh together about the wildly different lives they'd led before arriving on campus.

What started as a quirky campus tradition quietly spread from dorm room to dorm room, university to university, and eventually — with the rise of the internet — around the entire world.

From Paper to Phenomenon

By the late 2000s and early 2010s, the Rice Purity Test had gone fully digital. Social media turned it into a viral pastime: students began sharing scores on Twitter, comparing answers with friends, and debating which questions were fair. What had once been a private checklist became a cultural touchstone.

Today, millions of people take the Rice Purity Test every year — not just college students, but curious minds of all ages from every corner of the world. It has transcended its university roots to become a universal rite of self-reflection.

Our Mission

We built this site with one goal: to keep the spirit of the original Rice Purity Test alive in its purest form — anonymous, judgment-free, and completely honest.

What Your Score Means

The score you receive at the end of the test is a number — nothing more, nothing less. It doesn't define your character, your worth, or your future. It's simply a snapshot of the experiences you've checked off on life's long and winding checklist.

We've seen people with scores of 98 who lived richer, more adventurous lives than anyone could imagine. We've seen people with scores of 12 who are the kindest, most grounded individuals you'd ever meet. The number is a conversation starter, not a verdict.

Why We Built This

We're a small team that grew up taking this test in our dorm rooms, sharing results over late-night study breaks, and laughing until we cried at some of the questions. When we looked for a modern version of the test that stayed true to the original — clean, private, and fast — we couldn't find one that felt right.

So we built it ourselves. This site is our love letter to a century of college tradition, designed from the ground up to be the best possible version of the Rice Purity Test available anywhere online.

A Note on Responsibility

The Rice Purity Test covers mature themes, including references to alcohol, substance use, and sexuality. This site is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We encourage everyone to take the test responsibly and in the spirit it was designed: as a tool for reflection and connection, not peer pressure or comparison.

Your story is your own. Take pride in it — all of it.
